Shelain Patel is a consultant orthopaedic foot & ankle surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He graduated from University College London Medical School and completed basic surgical training in London before becoming a clinical research fellow at University College Hospital. He then joined the UCLH & Middlesex Hospital orthopaedic training programme. He subsequently completed recognised foot & ankle fellowships in Windsor and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, was awarded the BOSTAA fellowship to visit centres of excellence in USA and Holland, and was awarded sponsorship by BOFAS to undertake the BOA Clinical Leaders Programme.
Throughout his career Mr Patel has been actively involved with research. He is widely published with numerous peer reviewed publications, book chapters and consensus publications. He is actively involved in research at the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science based at RNOH.
Mr Patel was elected to sit on a national committee with the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS), and is a reviewer for numerous orthopaedic peer-reviewed journals.
Mr Patel is a keen educator and trainer, and has won a Top Teacher award by UCL Medical School. He runs departmental teaching for registrars and is regularly invited as faculty for orthopaedic courses and registrar training programmes.
