Adult Day Surgery Unit

Welcome to the Adult Day Surgery Unit, a 14-trolley mixed-sex ward dedicated to providing high-quality care for patients with a range of orthopaedic conditions. To ensure your privacy and dignity, we have designated bays for females and male patients, as well as, single-sex toilet and shower facilities. #

The Adult Day Surgery Unit will accommodate patients who are admitted, operated and discharge the same day. We strive to make your day surgery experience as smooth and stress-free as possible, focusing on your individual needs and recovery.

We hope you will not hesitate to ask for as much information and advice as you require about any aspect of your care here on The Adult Day Surgery Unit.

Please be aware that your hospital stay may last the entire day, so it is advisable to clear your schedule for the day of your admission.

You're advised not to bring in any valuables you won't be needing on the day

RNOH has flexible visiting times for inpatients. There will be no set visiting hours, so up to two visitors can come whenever it is convenient for the patient.

Visitor guidelines

We’d kindly ask that you:

• Avoid visiting during meal times, sleep/rest times, treatments, or personal care times.
• Keep noise levels low and respect the privacy of other patients.
• Step outside of the bay during your visit, if asked to by staff, to protect the confidentiality and dignity of other patients.

The nurse in charge will make the final decision on visiting times to ensure patient needs and overall wellbeing are balanced.

If more than one person is needed, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

For patients receiving end-of-life care, we will accommodate visitors at any time to meet their needs and preferences.

Please report to the Ward Clerk on Reception prior to entering the ward.  If the Reception desk is unattended, contact the ward on 020 8909 5345/ 5663

Whilst you're waiting for your procedure, you're allowed to sip water, no more than 100mls per hour.

Upon return to the ward from your operation you will be offered food and drinks.

Visitors are not to consume food on the ward; there are canteen facilities on site for visitors.

We cannot accommodate more than two visitors at the bedside and request that visitors do not sit on the beds for infection control reasons. There are a number of chairs available for visitors on the ward.

There are a variety of shower rooms and toilets available most of which are wheelchair accessible.

There are no bedside phones; mobile phones are allowed but be mindful of the noise.

You can connect to the WiFi service for patients.

Doctor's ward round

These vary by Consultant but will occur in the morning of their allocated day.
Whenever a healthcare professional comes to see you during your stay, they should explain what they are doing or plan to do. If they don’t or you don’t understand what they have said, don’t be afraid to ask them to explain.
