World Hand Hygiene Day takes place every year on the 5 May. As we had a bank holiday that day, our brilliant Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team celebrated with colleagues at the RNOH Bolsover Street on Thursday 8 May. The IPC team will also be marking the campaign at the RNOH Stanmore site on Tuesday 13 May.
Each year the 'SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands' campaign aims to progress the goal of maintaining a global profile on the importance of hand hygiene in health care and to ‘bring people together’ in support of hand hygiene improvement globally. You can get more information about the campaign here.
The theme this year is ‘It might be gloves. It’s always hand hygiene.’ This centres on the objective of promoting optimal hand hygiene practices as per the 'five moments of hand hygiene' and puts an emphasis on appropriate glove use within the healthcare workflow; likewise, focusing on raising awareness on the environmental and climate impact of gloves on waste generation and management, particularly when used unnecessarily.
This is great as we relaunch our Trust’s GLOVES OFF! campaign this year!
