A fantastic day as colleagues from across the country came to RNOH to attend the first Spotlight on Sarcoma event. A packed agenda brought together presentations from therapists, radiographers, histopathologists, nurse practitioners, psychologists, surgeons and patients under the a banner of 'bridging knowledge and practice'.
Today's event was tailored for nurses, healthcare assistants, and allied health professionals working in inpatient and outpatient settings. It was aimed at enhancing their knowledge and awareness in the management of bone and soft tissue sarcomas of the limbs and trunk. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with colleagues from various healthcare disciplines and gain valuable insights into the London Sarcoma Service's collaborative approach to patient care, covering everything from diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation.
A sarcoma is a rare type of malignant tumour that develops in bone and connective tissue, such as fat, muscle, blood vessels, nerves and the tissue that surrounds bones and joints. Symptoms depend on the tumour’s size and location. Sarcoma is a rare cancer, making up about 1.3% of all cancer diagnoses in the UK.
