The CQC (Care Quality Commission) has published results for the 2024 Adult Inpatient Survey. The report summarises the experiences of over 62,400 patients who used NHS adult inpatient services during November 2024. Among that number, responses were received from 645 people at RNOH. The survey asked patients for their views on aspects of their care, such as: the hospital environment, communication with staff, involvement in decisions and being treated with respect and dignity.
We’re delighted to report that RNOH has been identified as performing ‘better than expected’. This is because the proportion of respondents who answered positively to questions about their care at RNOH, across the entire survey, was significantly above the trust average.
This report and the survey results will be available at the following link: Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust - Care Quality Commission (cqc.org.uk)
RNOH performed particularly well in several areas, achieving ‘better than expected’ against other trusts against the following questions:
• Not prevented from sleeping: NOT being prevented from sleeping
• Cleanliness of rooms or wards: the hospital room or ward being clean
• Help to wash and keep clean: getting enough help to wash and keep clean
• Answers to questions: doctors answering their questions in a way they could understand
• Including patients: doctors including them in discussions about their care
• Care after discharge: knowing what would happen next with their care when leaving hospital
Prof Paul Fish, RNOH Chief Executive, said: “The feedback we receive from patients is hugely valuable to us. We use it to identify where things are going well and where things can be improved. We continuously strive to ensure our services and the care we provide to our patients is the best it can be. As the nation’s leading provider of orthopaedic care and an internationally recognised centre of excellence, our ongoing commitment to safe, high quality care across all our patient groups and specialties is underpinned by our core value of ‘patients first, always’. Coming alongside our national ranking as the second highest rated acute/specialist trust in England, the results of this inpatient survey clearly demonstrates that RNOH staff work every day to deliver the very best care, as we have done for over a century, and will continue to do so into the future.”
