Yesterday, RNOH marked Holocaust Memorial Day. The event honours the memory of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, alongside all victims of genocide, and attendees reflected on the consequences of hatred, prejudice and indifference.

Holocaust Memorial Day matters because it is not only about the past. It challenges us, here and now, to recognise our shared humanity and our responsibility to stand against discrimination in all its forms. In a healthcare setting, where dignity, compassion and respect are foundational, this remembrance speaks directly to who we are and how we care for one another.

The commemoration was led jointly by Fr Paul Reece, RNOH Chaplain, and Rabbi Kathleen Middleton, from the Mosaic Reform Synagogue, Stanmore, reflecting the Trust’s commitment to inclusion, understanding and unity across faiths and beliefs.

This year’s theme was “Building Bridges.” It invites us to reflect on how hatred tears communities apart, and how courage, compassion, and solidarity can rebuild what has been broken.

Purple ribbons were fixed to the railing opposite The Stanmore Building by the attendees to symbolise their reflection on the past and commitment to the future.
