We’re delighted to announce that RNOH is listed in the top nine NHS trusts in this year’s annual Care Quality Commission adult inpatient survey. In comparison to other trusts, RNOH performed extremely well, scoring:

  • much better than most trusts for 16 questions, including:

When doctors spoke about your care in front of you, were you included in the conversation?

To what extent did staff looking after you involve you in decisions about your care?

Did hospital staff tell you who to contact if you were worried about your condition or treatment after you left hospital?

  • better than most trusts for 13 questions, including:

Overall, how was your experience while you were in the hospital?

Were you given enough privacy when being examined or treated?

How clean was the hospital room or ward that you were in?

RNOH scored ‘about the same’ as other trusts for 15 questions and there were no questions at all for which RNOH scored ‘much worse’, ‘worse’ or ‘somewhat worse’ as other trusts.

Paul Fish, RNOH Chief Executive, said: “Once again, RNOH continues to demonstrate our core value of putting patients first. This survey result that puts us in the top nine of NHS trusts is a testament to the hard work and pride all our staff and volunteers have in working for RNOH and the NHS. These results are even more impressive given the context of the COVID pandemic. I want to thank all at RNOH for their continued commitment to delivering safe, timely and appropriate care to our patient group, who have some of the most complex musculoskeletal conditions. The skill and compassion showed each day by RNOH colleagues to our patients, their families and carers, is a huge source of pride.”

Every year, the Care Quality Commission undertake an inpatient survey across all NHS Trusts. This survey encourages patients to help us better understand where they believe we are doing well, and where we should be focusing our efforts to improve their experience. The most recent inpatient survey took place the end of last year and looked at the experiences of people who stayed at least one night at RNOH during November 2021.

These results come on the back of the recent Newsweek global poll that ranked RNOH as the top orthopaedic hospital in the UK, and the 9th best in the world, demonstrate the world-class care we provide our patients. This is borne out in these results and we’re immensely proud of all the staff, volunteers and partners that RNOH works with each day to ensure we continue to be the best orthopaedic hospital in the UK and one of the best in the world.
