The RNOH will remain the UK’s leading specialist orthopaedic hospital, further enhancing its international profile for outstanding patient care, research and education

Friends of the RNOH

Due to the many challenges facing charities of all sizes and the additional administrative work this invariably brings, it was with deep regret that the Board and trustees of the Friends decided in April 2015 to close the charity as soon as is practically possible.

Our Stanmore Outpatients Shop and Help Desk closed under management of the Friends in July 2015.

In accordance with their memorandum and articles of association the Friends’ trustees distributed the charity’s funds to projects agreed with the RNOH NHS Trust.

About the Friends

Founded in 1963, the Friends’ function was to provide extra care and comfort for the hospital’s patients, visitors and staff. Major projects over the years included the funding of a Patients’ Centre, a swimming pool and part funding of the Graham Hill Unit.

Our patron, HRH, the Duke of Gloucester KG GSVO and his family have a long established relationship with the RNOH.

Projects and funding

The main task of the Friends was to raise money for projects already decided upon in principle by the RNOH NHS Trust and to initiate others which were thought to be valuable. In all, the Friends have raised in excess of £2 million.
