SCI Rehabilitation: Considerations for Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists

This course is aimed at:
- OTs and PTs who work in both the acute and rehabilitation settings who are keen to learn more about treating patients with a spinal cord injury (SCI).
The course covers:
- the holistic assessment of individuals to identify the individual’s specific impairments and relevant treatment options in order to support them in achieving maximum independence in accordance with their type of SCI. It will also focus on anticipating and preventing avoidable secondary complications.
The course format includes:
- a combination of theory and practical teaching with a dedicated workshop for a facilitated discussion about your own experiences treating individuals with an SCI.
The course does not cover:
- Acute SCI management including respiratory management, weaning or management of unstable spinal injuries. The LSCIC offers alternative courses on these topics. Please see the LSCIC Outreach website.
The course will take place at the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre (LSCIC), Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), Stanmore HA7 4LP
