Prosthetic Rehabilitation Unit

The Prosthetic Rehabilitation Unit provides a service to people who have undergone amputation, those who may need an amputation and those (mainly children) with congenital limb loss.

The service is for life and includes the provision, maintenance and repair of artificial limbs together with a rehabilitation service provided by a multidisciplinary team.

The centre is one of 44 in the UK with people accessing the service from a wide geographical area.

The service manager is Clare Tamsitt and the multidisciplinary team includes:

  • Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine - Professor Rajiv Hanspal and Dr Imad Sedki
  • Prosthetists and clinic assistant
  • Technicians and clinical technicians
  • Rehabilitation engineer
  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Clinical psychologist
  • Counsellor
  • Health care assistant
  • Administrative/secretarial staff
  • Nursing support

Access to the service

Referral to the service is usually through the surgical teams following amputation. However, later referrals can be made by a GP/healthcare professional.

Opening hours

The centre is open from 08.00 until 16.30 for booked appointments.
Emergencies can be accommodated at short notice.

Orthotic & Prosthetic Users Stanmore (OPUS)

OPUS is a voluntary users group working alongside the RNOH to provide an effective forum for all RNOH Orthotic and Prosthetic Department users, their families and carers. OPUS aims to establish a network of peer support and a positive working relationship between users, centre clinicians and the Trust, providing opportunities for feedback, voicing concerns and sharing ideas.
