Orthopaedic hospital wheels into action
The Friends of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) are launching a new wheelchair rental facility on 18 May.
Wheels 4 Ease will operate from the Patients' Centre at the Stanmore site. The service will offer short-term wheelchair hire for local users and local patients of the RNOH.
Jon Marx, a volunteer of the Friends and founder of Wheels 4 Ease, recognises that NHS wheelchairs are available for patients with long-term mobility problems but he has identified a need for short-term wheelchair hire of up to three months.
"This is a really exciting initiative for the Friends. We have purchased a number of manual wheelchairs, which are easy to operate. The hiring costs are low and all proceeds will go towards the RNOH," said Mr Marx.
"We hope local patients and local wheelchair users will come to us as their first port of call as we are keen to meet our community's needs and raise money for the RNOH at the same time. All wheelchair users will be given comprehensive training before hiring and the wheelchair maintenance will be taken care of."
