Back at the start of March members of OPUS (Orthotic & Prosthetic Users Stanmore) group met with the Nordic Walking Watford Group. They talked about the logistics of Nordic Walking as a prosthetic or orthotic wearer and the challenges of uneven surfaces, hills, slopes, cambers and grass for those who have mobility challenges.
After being shown the basic technique by Tracy and Sharon from Nordic Walking (pictured), they kindly offered OPUS two free taster sessions at RNOH Stanmore on Friday 31st March and Sunday 23rd April. Participants are advised to arrive at 10:30 for an 11:00 start. Tracy and Sharon are also came along to The Big Meet Up arranged by OPUS at the Battleaxes pub, Butterfly Lane, Elstree on Saturday 11th March to meet prosthetic and orthotic users and to answer any questions users may have about Nordic Walking.
OPUS is a voluntary users group working alongside the RNOH to provide an effective forum for all RNOH Orthotic and Prosthetic Department users, their families and carers. OPUS aims to establish a network of peer support and a positive working relationship between users, centre clinicians and the Trust, providing opportunities for feedback, voicing concerns and sharing ideas.
