New Chair in clinical orthopaedics
Professor Alister Hart has been appointed as the RNOH’s Chair in clinical orthopaedics.
Professor Hart will be based at the Institute of Orthopaedics, following the retirement of Professor David Marsh in March 2012.
Rob Hurd, chief executive, said, research and development is an area of top priority for the RNOH.
“Professor Hart has vast knowledge and experience in research and development and we believe that his expertise will drive our vision forward.”
The focus of Professor Hart’s research is metal-on-metal joint replacements. He has carried out a series of studies on metal ion levels in patients with metal-on-metal hip replacements that has been important in assessing the wear and the effect of these implants on patients.
Clinically, Professor Hart specialises in hip and knee arthroplasty and he will become a member of the joint reconstruction team.
