Permits to Work

A permit to work system is to be instigated for the following operations:

  • Work to live electrical systems
  • Work to fire alarm
  • Hot works including grinding and cutting with abrasive wheels
  • Excavation works
  • Entry to confined spaces
  • Work to data systems
  • Work to gas systems

Hot work may only be carried out after obtaining a Hot Work Permit from the Trust and complying with the requirements thereof. The permit is to be handed back to either the shift Engineer outside normal working hours or to the Estates Office during working hours.

Any hot work must cease at least 2 hours before the end of the shift and be inspected by the site manager at the end of the shift.

A permit to work system shall be in place for any hot work and operatives will have adequate and appropriate fire fighting equipment at the work area. Permits will only be valid for one shift.

A permit to work system shall be in place for any work on clinic services and / or that may cause disruption to the existing circuits. Permits to Work will be issued by the clients' site representative, before commencing. Approval to be sought at least 48 hours prior to requirement.
