The RNOHs Great Summer Bake-Off took place at the end of a sizzling hot May bank holiday. It was a tightly fought competition but our winners produced cakes of exceptional and taste and exquisite style.
Congratulations to Judith Fronda, Theatre nurse, whose beautifully decorated cake, "The Six", - chocolate with mocha and Swiss meringue - was a taste tingling delight. Christine Bows from Redevelopment, in her second foray as a baker, also came up trumps. Her RNOH Buttercup inspired cake won a runner-up prize. Our second runner-up, Sandrine Slavik's summer-themed and delicately decorated Coconut and Lime cake, was worthy of the accolade.
Richard Scott's Charismatic Chocolate Cake and Zoe Keats' MRI scanner were given a special commendation by the judges for their work.
Our thanks to Stacey Hart, a former finalist in the BBC's Great British Bake-Off, for helping judge the cakes.
A full report with pictures of all the cakes will be published in the RNOH magazine, Articulate, in the next few weeks.
The contestants had kindly donated their cakes to The RNOH Charity for sale in Outpatients and Broccles restaurant. This will help raise funds for the children’s play area in the new inpatient block. Should you want to donate to this fund, contact: 020 8909 5362 / 5468 or visit the RNOH Charity donation page.
