Research Centres

The RNOH has developed five Centres for R&D each consisting of a number of Units:

  • Clinical Orthopaedic Centre:
    Convenor, Professor George Bentley. Units: Musculo-Skeletal Restoration, Paediatric Orthopaedics, and Spinal Surgery;
  • Implant Design Centre:
    Convenor, Professor Gordon Blunn;
  • Quality of Life Research Centre:
    Head Professor Martin Ferguson-Pell. Units: Human Performance, CDRI, and Nursing & Professions Allied to Medicine;
  • Musculoskeletal Pathobiology Research Centre:
    Convenor, Professor Allen Goodship. Units: Bone Tumour, Metabolic Disorders , Histopathology and Imaging;
  • Spinal Research Centre:
    Convenor, Professor Michael Craggs. Units: Neuroprosthesis Research Centre, Spinal Injuries, Peripheral Nerve Injuries and Anaesthesia. www.spinalresearchcentre.org.uk

The research endeavour of the Trust is co-ordinated by the Research & Development Subcommittee. This is a subcommittee of the Academic and Research Board, a formal sub-committee of the Trust Board. The remit of the Research & Development Subcommittee is to manage the research portfolio of the Trust and ensure all research carried out adheres to agreed criteria. It is co-chaired by Non-Executive Director Professor Geoffrey Burnstock, the London University representative on the Trust Board.
