The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital has a long established association with the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science, UCL. This strong interaction between clinicians and scientists has resulted in many of the advances which have contributed to improve the quality of life for patients with complex orthopaedic disease.

The Institute's translational research is driven by the need for clinicians to find solutions to the most complex and devastating musculoskeletal problems suffered by patients referred to this tertiary referral centre. A recent advance in this partnership has been the establishment of a clinical research facility in which the problems can be evaluated on an evidence basis and thereafter form the basis for improving clinical practice in musculoskeletal medicine.
