Consultants choose to treat many of their private patients at the RNOH as the hospital is their normal work base and it is where they have developed their specialist team. Back-up is also available from a comprehensive range of on-site expert care, including specialist nurses and therapists.
Areas of expertise include:
- Spinal surgery
- Spinal deformity
- Foot and ankle
- Hip and knee
- Bone tumours
- Peripheral nerve injuries
- Paediatric orthopaedics
Our consultants can be contacted via the Private Patients Unit office on 020 8909 5713.
The privacy and comfort of home in a leading specialist hospital
The Private Patient Unit has 20 beds located on two wards, Ian Monro Ward and Philip Newman Ward. Most rooms have single en-suite facilities while some rooms have an en-suite bathroom shared between two rooms. The en-suite facilities have walk-in showers to facilitate bathing for patients whose condition makes it difficult for them to use a bath; this is particularly practical for patients in wheelchairs.
All rooms are furnished to ensure your privacy and comfort with duvets, Freeview TV, internet access, small refrigerator, bedside telephone (BT standard charges apply) and complimentary daily newspaper.
Our chef in a dedicated kitchen within the unit prepares our patients' meals. Choices are from a varied menu with a daily chef special. A light snack menu is also available throughout the day. Patients with special dietary needs are catered for and our chef is happy to discuss your requirements on request. Our team of hostesses are available for room service throughout the day.
Coffee and afternoon tea is complimentary for your visitors. Additional light snacks or choices from the full menu are available on request at the published price.
Private rooms for children and young people under the age of 16 years are located in the annex of the Coxen Ward, our dedicated children and young people's ward. All rooms are en-suite with walk in showers and parents are welcome to stay in the room on the bedside sofa chair for no additional charge. Children and young people benefit from all the benefits above while being in a child friendly environment with the support of school teachers, play specialists and children's nurses and other children and families which our patients find beneficial in their recovery.
Nurses and therapies
Our patients benefit from high standards of nursing care with high registered nurse to patient ratios. Many of our nurses, both adult and children's, have undertaken further training in orthopaedic care. Our nurses are supported by a matron and range of senior specialist nurses including our acute pain nurse, tissue viability nurse and critical care outreach team.
Physiotherapy and occupational therapy forms an integral part of your treatment and recovery and our therapists provide assessment, advice and treatment on request from your consultant both at your pre operative assessment and during your admission.
If you have further nursing enquiries, please call 0208 909 5715/6.
Infection prevention and control
Prevention and control of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAIs) is a key priority at the RNOH..
The RNOH continues to have very low rates of infection; however it is imperative that the Trust continues to maintain these low numbers.
The senior nurse for infection control carries out surveillance on all patients undergoing hip and knee replacement surgery as well as all patients undergoing spinal surgery.
All patients will be screened for MRSA either at the pre assessment clinics or on admission to a ward, as per Department of Health guidelines. The senior nurse for infection control will follow up on all patients who test positive for MRSA.
Through regular inspections and audits, the senior nurse for infection control monitors environmental cleanliness in conjunction with our matron..
The RNOH website is updated regularly with the latest infection rates and seasonal information relating to infection control.
After care
The nursing and therapies staff will help you make arrangements for your ongoing care needs after discharge.
We are able to offer a follow-up dressing clinic for patients who would like the reassurance of having their wound care performed by our nursing team.
