The service runs a 12 bedded combine Level 3 and Level 2 Critical Care Unit for post surgical patients, admissions with spinal injuries, and those with acute medical problems that arise from within the hospital.

Care is provided by a designated Consultant Intensivist and nursing team, and covers both paediatric and adult patients. The unit also supports a nurse led critical care outreach team to follow up patients following discharge from the unit, and to assist in the management of patients causing clinical concern on the wards.
