Clinical Services

Services for patients

Inpatients

Inpatient facilities are provided at Stanmore. The RNOH has 220 inpatient beds in 13 wards. The hospital has eight operating theatres, fitted with the latest equipment to perform complex neuro-musculoskeletal procedures, and a six bedded recovery unit. Patients requiring special monitoring after surgery are accommodated in either the High Dependency Unit, or Intensive Care Unit, which has 12 beds.

The RNOH treats approximately 9,200 inpatients a year.

Outpatients

Outpatients facilities are provided at both Stanmore and our central London Outpatient Assessment Centre in Bolsover Street.

The Outpatients' Departments are open Monday to Friday from 08.30hrs - 18.00hrs. Nine consulting rooms are available and the department liaises closely with other departments such as limb fitting and orthotics

Our patient workload incorporates local, national and international referrals. These include new referrals, post-operative and long term follow ups and patients being assessed prior to surgery.

In addition to general orthopaedics we have specialist clinics dealing with bone tumours, scoliosis, metabolic disease, rheumatology, urology, spinal injuries, specialist shoulder conditions and sport injuries.

Our nursing staff deal with the management of clinics and general nursing duties that include wound care, phlebotomy, performing ECG's and any basic nursing care. An important function of the department is assessing patients prior to surgery. This includes a thorough nursing assessment to identify and deal with any special requirements and giving patients information and education.

Nurse and therapy led clinics are already in progress and this is a role that we are keen to develop.

The outpatient staff are aware that we create the first impression for many patients attending the RNOH and strive to ensure that this impression is always positive.
