Founded in 1963, the Friends' function has been and is to provide extra care and comfort for the hospital's patients, visitors and staff. Major projects include the funding of the Patients' Centre, the swimming pool and the Graham Hill Unit.
The Friends are located in the Patients' Centre, which is adjacent to the Outpatients' Department, providing easy and convenient access for patients and visitors to the hospital's services.
Services that operate from the Patients' Centre include:
- Snack bar (staffed solely by volunteers)
- Shop (staffed solely by volunteers)
- Wheelchair hire facility - Wheels 4 Ease - which is available for members of the public and hospital patients
Profits from the services provided by the Friends benefit the RNOH.
The Friends also staff an information desk, manned by volunteers, in the Outpatients' Department, Stanmore.
There is a constant need for more volunteers. For further information about volunteering, please contact Loelia Harris, Honorary Secretary to the RNOH Friends, via the hospital switchboard or on 020 8909 5571.
For funds, the Friends depend on contributions from members. Subscriptions for membership are a minimum of £10 a year. If you would like to support the hospital, please write to the Friends Office at the RNOH, Stanmore or e-mail loelia.harris@rnoh.nhs.uk.
