The artwork by Chris James
As a young man with a passion for comic books, Chris James was searching for a career that would let him tell graphic stories, without having to lead the hermitic lifestyle of the comic strip artist.
Twenty years after starting out as a junior designer, Chris can truly say he has achieved his ambition of mixing graphic creativity with social interaction.
Now operating as 05creative, based in Brighton, and with a history working for respected agencies, Chris has racked up a huge wealth of design and branding experience. His broad range of satisfied clients include Converse, the NHS, BBC Technology, Aviva Insurance and Microsoft..
Whether it's in print or pixel, Chris brings a skill set that ranges from concept creation to implementation of identity and visual communication.
Chris draws inspiration from the people behind growing businesses, finding their stories and conveying them through creative design. It's this love of narrative that also means he has absolutely no intention of growing out of comics.
The history of the RNOH
This very detailed piece by Chris James tells the story of the RNOH from the 1850's through to the present day. It uses photographs and anecdotes to capture the imagination and features two patients - Frank Ruck who as a young boy was admitted in 1905 to Great Portland Street and Daisy Nelson, a much more recent patient at Stanmore. It also tells us something about the staff who are the backbone of the hospital through snapshots into the lives of our surgeons, nurses and radiographers. We hope there is enough interest in this piece to keep you coming back for more on your return visits.
Futurology by Chris James
Another large piece from Chris James this time trying to predict the future of orthopaedics and medicine and the future for RNOH patients and clinicians. Chris chose some developments with the help of RNOH medical staff but at the same time the piece contains gaps to symbolise that even those experts cannot read into the future. The links are made through the disciplines of biology, chemistry and engineering.
The new hospital by Chris James
This piece by Chris James is aimed at our younger visitors and tells the story of the building of the new facility. It sets out some facts about the materials, equipment and people who contributed to such a wonderful building in case any of our visitors like the idea of working in architecture or construction.
